Kewell in shock signing with Galatasaray
Galatasaray announced the Socceroos attacker had signed a three-year deal, joining on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool following five injury-troubled seasons at Anfield.
But it is fans of another of Kewell's former teams - Leeds United - who are likely to be most stunned and aggrieved by his decision to join a club which played a major part in one of Leeds' darkest moments.
Two Leeds fans - Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight - were stabbed to death by Turkish football hooligans on the eve of the 2000 UEFA Cup semi-final first leg against Galatasaray.
Kewell played in that match which went ahead despite the tragedy - the 2-0 defeat immaterial to Leeds and their fans who still remember the murders of Loftus and Speight with deep sadness.
